Woolworth House

Hitek Consultants Ltd were commissioned to carry out a detailed report on the current condition, and options for replacement, of the mechanical air conditioning systems, the electrical installation, lighting, water storage and distribution, life safety fire services and computer room environmental services at Woolworths UK headquarters in London.

Value engineering studies were undertaken to analyse capital and running costs, with maintenance periods and historical data utilised for future projections of unit replacement costs and failure rates. Life cycle costing resulted in piecemeal refurbishment of the various services to the building whilst in full occupation. These works included a new fire alarm system, upgrade and renewal of the main electrical distribution.

Hitek Consultants Ltd were subsequently employed by Woolworths to carry out a full energy audit at Woolworth House and at their two largest distribution centres in Swindon and Castleton, Yorkshire. This included analysis of boiler efficiencies, apparatus drawn currents, luminaire efficacies, operating conditions, electrical harmonics, power factors, load profiles, utility purchase and tariff configuration, peak load lopping and site operations.

Hitek Consultants Ltd also undertook a feasibility study to replace an 80 year old steam boiler installation, including options for the provision of a new boiler system utilising recycled waste packaging as an alternative fuel at the 360,000sq.ft. distribution centre at Castleton, Yorkshire.
